Benefits of Reiki Therapy

Have you been feeling overwhelmed or exhausted? At one time or another, it happens to all of us, but you don’t have to live like this forever. One of the best ways to combat stress-overload is to turn to holistic medicine. Holistic medicine is about healing the whole person: mind, body, and soul. A variety of natural therapies can provide immediate relief, and one of the first ones I suggest to my patients is Reiki therapy.

In our fast-paced society, the effects of stress can take a physical toll, resulting in symptoms ranging from irritability and exhaustion to weight gain and illness. To combat these issues, many physicians suggest a variety of stress-relieving techniques. Regular exercise is one of the best ways to keep stress in check, but sometimes it isn’t enough.

Reiki is an ancient therapy that promotes healing by balancing the energy within the body. Trained Reiki therapists focus on unblocking the energy centers, called chakras, within a patient’s body. Many patients feel better after their first session, but regular sessions are often recommended to keep the chakras open and promote healing and stress relief. Reiki has been found to relieve a variety of ailments including anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, and chronic pain.

In 2015, a group of scientists studied the effects of Reiki therapy on mental health clinicians who were suffering from job-related burnout. They found that 30 minutes of healing touch Reiki therapy successfully reduced the effects of emotional and physical job-related stress. To address the possibility that the clinicians’ relief was caused by the power of suggestion, they used an untrained actor who pretended to perform Reiki on a control group.

Their results? The study found that the group treated by a trained Reiki practitioner had results that were statistically significantly better than the group treated by the actor. Their study was published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2015 and is one of the most through studies of the therapy to date.

If you’ve been bogged down with work stress, exhausted by family issues, or suffering from chronic pain, it’s time to give Reiki a try. I have witnessed the healing power of Reiki first hand, and can wholeheartedly recommend it as a therapeutic treatment to my patients.
