Foot and Ankle Injuries

As we age, foot and ankle injuries occur more often as the result of accidents due to lack of exercise or mobility. Once you are injured, our goal is to help you return to daily activities by going through a thorough evaluation to design a rehabilitation program for you that is safe and effective. The old adage, if you don’t use it, you lose it, is particularly true when it comes to our body. So, a large part of the program we design for you will be to restore strength and flexibility through a conditioning program. We will provide a wide range of exercises that including strengthening of the muscles that support your lower leg, foot, and ankle. This helps keep your ankle joint stable, preventing further injury. Flexibility is the next piece of the program, and stretching the muscles that you strengthen is important for restoring range of motion and also preventing injuries. We target specific muscle groups in the lower leg, as well as tendons, and ligaments that control movement in our feet in the exercises we structure for you. The conditioning program can last anywhere from four to six weeks, unless we find additional rehab is needed or it is recommended by your doctor. The exercise program we design for you should then be continued as a maintenance program for life to protect the health of your feet and lower legs.
