Geriatric Rehabilitation

Geriatric Rehabilitation

At the Holistic Healing Center, we use a combination of physical, mental, and spiritual treatment for preventative care with our elderly patients. Rather than prescribing a regimen of pills, we will work with the patient’s fitness and mobility, nutrition, and lifestyle habits to carry energy and comfort into old age. Natural treatments for Arthritis, Parkinson’s Disease, and other common ailments that develop over a lifetime are available to those looking to avoid invasive procedures such as surgery and excessive medication.

Here are some common ways we treat our geriatric patients at the Holistic Healing Center:

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy and developing the fitness of elderly patients Physical therapy and developing the fitness of our elderly patients is critical for treating Arthritis, Parkinson’s Disease, and managing fall prevention. Declining physical health can lead to other complications as individuals age, so we aim to keep our patients’ bodies active. Strength, balance, and mobility training play a key role in therapy sessions. Our team gives patients at-home exercises and stretches they can perform at home, as well as education on keeping their houses safe to prevent falls.

Mental and Social Advocacy

The Holistic Healing Center uses a variety of approaches to treating the whole body for our senior patientsWe want our patients to feel empowered as they age, so we aim to instill confidence through cognitive and social health. We are certified in LVST Big and Loud Therapy to assist our patients who have difficulties with communication. This speech and mobility therapy help our patients regain their independence for speech and delivery.

Relationships and social interactions play a significant function in reducing the risk of depression, lowering blood pressure, stimulating the brain, and boosting immunity! As people age, they tend to spend more time alone. However, we encourage our patients to remain social in their later years.

Nutritional Counseling

Our nutritional team works with geriatric patients to create an individualized plan based on a clean and anti-inflammatory diet. An anti-inflammatory diet reduces disease risk and helps with the pain of physical conditions one may endure with age. Our nutritional plans center around:

  • A variety of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables: to boost immunity and lower inflammation
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: found in salmon, flax seeds, and walnuts to promote cognitive health
  • Fiber: We will substitute simple and processed carbs such as white bread and sugars for fiber-filled complex carbs. Whole wheat, oats, and other grains assist with digestion.
  • Education on reducing inflammation-causing foods: We spend time educating our patients on the importance of reducing the intake of fried foods, sugars, and processed snacks to prevent chronic disease.

Cupping, Acupuncture, and Massage Therapy

These alternative methods assist with the physical pains and conditions that can come with age.

  • Cupping: Cupping is an ancient Chinese medicine practice that focuses on isolating the body’s areas suffering from pain by encouraging blood flow to the body part. Learn more about how our licensed therapists use cupping at our facility here.
  • Acupuncture: This is another ancient Chinese medical practice that boosts natural healing and improves functionality. A licensed practitioner utilizes filiform solid stainless needles to insert into specific pressure points. Acupuncture is popularized for pain-relief strategy.
  • Massage therapy: Our facility’s therapists are licensed in craniosacral therapy, reiki, deep–tissue mobilization, trigger–point releases, myofascial release methods, and deep relaxation techniques.
