Benefits of Reiki Therapy

photo

Have you been feeling overwhelmed or exhausted? At one time or another, it happens to all of us, but you don’t have to live like this forever. One of the best ways to combat stress-overload is to turn to holistic medicine. Holistic medicine is about healing the whole person: mind, body, and soul. A variety of natural therapies can provide immediate relief, and one of the first ones I suggest to my patients is Reiki therapy.

In our fast-paced society, the effects of stress can take a physical toll, resulting in symptoms ranging from irritability and exhaustion to weight gain and illness. To combat these issues, many physicians suggest a variety of stress-relieving techniques. Regular exercise is one of the best ways to keep stress in check, but sometimes it isn’t enough.

Reiki is an ancient therapy that promotes healing by balancing the energy within the body. Trained Reiki therapists focus on unblocking the energy centers, called chakras, within a patient’s body. Many patients feel better after their first session, but regular sessions are often recommended to keep the chakras open and promote healing and stress relief. Reiki has been found to relieve a variety of ailments including anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, and chronic pain.

In 2015, a group of scientists studied the effects of Reiki therapy on mental health clinicians who were suffering from job-related burnout. They found that 30 minutes of healing touch Reiki therapy successfully reduced the effects of emotional and physical job-related stress. To address the possibility that the clinicians’ relief was caused by the power of suggestion, they used an untrained actor who pretended to perform Reiki on a control group.

Their results? The study found that the group treated by a trained Reiki practitioner had results that were statistically significantly better than the group treated by the actor. Their study was published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2015 and is one of the most through studies of the therapy to date.

If you’ve been bogged down with work stress, exhausted by family issues, or suffering from chronic pain, it’s time to give Reiki a try. I have witnessed the healing power of Reiki first hand, and can wholeheartedly recommend it as a therapeutic treatment to my patients. Fight the fatigue today and schedule your appointment with our certified Reiki Therapist, located in the Holistic Healing Center office for your convenience.

Himalayan Salt Stone Therapy Comes to Colts Neck, NJ

photo

Move over, yoga and Reiki, there’s a new exotic relaxation option in town. Himalayan Salt Stone Therapy is the newest rage in holistic medicine and it’s made a splash in Colts Neck, New Jersey – of all places, at Dr. Nancy’s Holistic Healing Center. Read on to hear about how it works and why you should consider it.

Himalayan Salt Stone Therapy with Massage

Himalayan Salt Stone Therapeutic Massage

The image to the left illustrates how Himalayan Salt Stone Therapy relieved calf tendonitis for a patient of our wellness center in Colts Neck. Minerals were delivered by applying the warm stones directly through the skin in a therapeutic massage with some detoxification massage oil and pink sea salt. Trigger point therapy was applied to the tough knots in the patient’s calf to cause release.

But the therapeutic benefit isn’t all there is to it; Himalayan Salt Stone massage is potentially beneficial for your immune system and can help purify the air in your home to possibly reduce airborne illness.

Himalayan Salt Stone Therapy with Electric Stimulus

Himalayan Salt Stones provide a deep pressure to relax and ease tension. At Holistic Healing Center, we apply electrical simulation pads into the areas of treatment to increase effectiveness. Watch this video for a live demonstration of how this Himalayan Salt Stone Therapy has been used on a client with back pain.

The electrical stimulation is a natural pain reliever that blocks the signals from your muscle to your brain telling you that you’re in pain. So unlike a pharmaceutical pain reliever that chemically blocks those signals, the electrical stimulation is a safe, natural way to relieve pain.

If you’re tired of popping pills and want to explore natural ways to reduce stress and improve your health through holistic medicine techniques such as Himalayan Salt Stone Therapy, email drnancy@holistichealingcenternj.com or contact us for more information.

Robots to Replace Physical Therapists in NJ? Fuhgetaboutit!

photo

Everything we read seems to attest that artificial intelligence is going to have more influence over healthcare in years to come.  Although we welcome any technological advancements, we are not completely convinced that surrendering control to machines instead of physical therapists in NJ is going to catch on anytime soon. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the term, by the way, artificial intelligence uses algorithms to teach machines and robots to mimic human behavior.

Here’s why we like it:  Who wouldn’t like to see a cure for cancer?  Such innovation could increase the health of the population, increase the quality of life for humanity, and relieve financial pressures burdening an already burdened system. On the other hand, we’re not quite certain that anyone other than a doctor should be rendering healthcare advice. It’s still too risky. There is a skill and intuition that excellent healthcare practitioners have that cannot be replaced by machines. Many of us can testify to the fact that to when making a critical and irrevocable decision about a human being’s health, intuition, wisdom and experience play a huge role.  Plus, how can a robot deliver bedside manner like physical therapists in NJ do?  The human element to medicine can not be replaced. And then there’s the crisis scenario. Let’s say we give the machines access to our healthcare information and then lose control of the machines.

The following examples of bedside manner illustrate we do not envision in our lifetime any robot being able to replace. For example, one of our clients has Multiple Sclerosis and as you can see from her testimonial, the kindness and care that we’ve shown her has made a remarkable difference in her treatment. We are right by her side as she fights the disease. For another of our clients who sprained his ankle so severely that he thought he would never be the same again, our bedside manner has led to dramatic improvements.  Visit our Holistic Healing Center YouTube page to hear and see more of what real bedside manner is like.  Can artificial intelligence offer the same level of comfort, compassion, empathy, and most of all can it warm the patient’s heart like we do? Fuhgetaboutit!

Any opinion on whether or not you see robots replacing physical therapists in NJ – yeah or neigh?  Comment below and let us know what you think.
